What do you get when you combine doo-wop, garage punk and surf? The sensational, electrifying Shannon and the Clams. They came to Three Links last night and blessed Dallas with sparkling gold blazers, high energy and the perfect music to thrash to, then turn around and swoon to.
Reigning from Oakland, this retro-rock group filled most of their set with tracks from their recent and final release Gone By Dawn. They had us all on our heels from the beginning to the encore. Shannon is such a doll and her voice truly brings me to my knees (dat’s bae right there). I was posted smack dab in the front, getting shoved and leaped off of as crowd surfers and moshers went crazy behind me.
While their recent album was all about break ups and had a hovering sense of doom sprinkled in the lyrics, this show was far from a sad girls pity party. Take a look for yourself.
SUPER HONORABLE MENTIONS: The opening acts, local lovies Fungi Girls – who Shannon and The Clams have been playing with since the FG’s were 16. And Cool Ghouls, who hail from San Francisco, but made me feel like they were right at home with their psychedelic folk vibes.
