When it comes to creating with purpose, Austin never disappoints.
I’ve been a fan of this city since I knew there was an oasis to the bore that can be the state of Texas. Austin has always represented progressive thinking, growth with consideration to the environment, and dope food. I’d been to ACL before but never truly paid attention to the fact that it ran in partnership with the Austin Parks Foundation to directly benefit the bettering of Austin’s green spaces. Now, why the hell don’t we have more festivals like this in other cities? Not only do they bring thousands of people together to celebrate music and creativity – but also serve to better their community. This should be a standard to every festival IMO.
Beyond the music and cool visuals that filled the festival, our other favorite sights to see were people and their flags/leader sticks. I don’t know when this became a festival trend but I’m not complaining. We captured our faves at the fest.
So let me get back to bragging about how fucking easy they made this fest for guests: Our wrist bands were capable of storing our credit cards on them. Just let that sink in for those of us who have seen ease transform itself over the last 10 years. This was a huuuuuge deal. It made it so easy to go around and buy whatever we wanted. (yes this is dangerous and probably makes you spend more money but eh – whatever)
Convenience was key this year and they nailed it.
This was not the only element that made for a wonderful experience. As many Austinites know, this place is filled with cedar that simply fucks anyone with slight allergies up. But rest assured, there were little “Bodega” tents filled with supplies, medicine, healthy treats and more to doctor anyone with a hefty sneeze right up.
I gotta hand it to the staff members and volunteers that made up ACL this year. These people brought out the southern charm and comfort that we all love so much. I always felt welcomed and appreciated and couldn’t have had a better time.
Lastly – ACL is a reminder that community and co-existance is key. We found people of all walks of life with one connected love; music. We got your bros, teenieboppers, moms, families who love to sit in chairs the entire time, mothers and daughters, hipsters, couples that match entire outfits and your chronic selfie-takers. It’s all good, we all came because we love music and we all had a hell of a good time.
Oh yeah and we even saw a double rainbow?!?! ACL is Magic.
Till next year, Y’all!
