Just Feel Something // Melania Brescia

Meet photographer Melania Brescia.

Austere //

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Melania Brescia //

My name is Melania Brescia, I am from southern Spain and I’m 22-years-old. I started doing photography when I was 16 after I gave up drawing in art school.

Why do you make art?

MB

Before I went to art school I was very depressed for some reasons, that was when I was about 13 years old, so I didn’t learn properly how to make friends or communicate very well because I just wanted to be alone then, so by the time I started making friends when I was 16, I still didn’t know how to react, or express myself, so photography or drawing was like my was of escape and expressing myself. It was my relief.

What do you think of your work?

MB

I think everything can always improve. I think I can get better and always do a better work, but for now, all I need photography for is just to feel better with myself, and it’s been kinda perfect for that, so I have no complaints.

What’s your favorite piece or series you’ve ever done?

MB

My favourite piece is definitely “HOME”, a picture I did with my fiancé last summer before he left. We are in a long distance relationship so it has a lot of meaning for me.

Who/what are you inspired by?

MB

I used to follow a lot of photographers and artists before, and I still do but in a different way. I now follow a bunch of amazing photographers that just love what they do. They are pretty much unknown and I see a lot of blogs and any kind of art can inspire me. I can always give you my favourite photographers’ names but I don’t think they inspire me the way these others do, that’s more like adoration or a dream to be someone like that.

What (if anything) do you want your art to accomplish?

MB

I don’t wish anything for my work. I am really happy if people can just feel it–not even understand what I am saying with it–just feel something. I think that’s the whole point of art and I would be beyond happy if my work can do that.
