Too Much of a Good Thing // Ian Scott

Meet Ian Scott, a surreal artist from Houston, Texas.

Austere //

Why do you make art?

Ian Scott //

I don’t really have a reason. It’s just always been something I’ve loved to do.

A

Has art always been a part of your life?

IS

Yes, it has. When I got surgery on my hands, one thing they would have me do in physical therapy was draw. I was too young to write, but every kid can draw. So, it was a good way to regain strength in my hands because my arms would be in casts for months. I was 3 when I started drawing.

A

Where do you get inspiration?
IS

Movies, books, music, conversations, dreams, scribbling on paper. Pretty much anything and everything.

A

Who are your favorite artists?

IS

Agnes Cecile, Zach Johnsen, Carnes Griffith, Erik Jones, Nosego, Banksy, Mike Moses and Renee Magritte.

A

What is your favorite artwork of your own?

IS

Too Much of a Good Thing. I also really like the fox I did.

A

What message do you want your art to convey?

IS

I’ve always wanted to create a duality between things, at least with some of my art. Usually, my art has a dark subject matter but is very brightly conveyed.

A

What would you eat for your last meal?

IS

A peanut butter and honey sandwich.

A

How satisfied are you with life?

IS

Not satisfied enough.

A

What about creatively?

IS

Still not satisfied enough.

A

How would you reach the ultimate level of satisfaction?

IS

Sloppy at best.
